Our Mission

We are on a mission to empower new and expectant parents through education and community so they can thrive as new parents!

The idea for WeeHuman began from a desire to make the journey to new parenthood easier. To have the best information and personal support available while you navigate pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood.

And then the pandemic happened. We saw our local parenting communities struggling with a lack of the information and support they needed, at a time when navigating new parenting had become more complex than ever. And we knew it was even more important for parents all over to have access to that information, advice, support, and guidance, even with social distancing.

Since then, we’ve had incredible experiences connecting with parents all over the US, Canada, and beyond. We discovered that on-demand lessons and online live classes meant military parents stationed far apart could attend birth class together. That ex-pat parents could access English-language classes wherever they are in the world. That parents in big cities, small towns, and everywhere in between could access the same great information and connect over their shared experiences. Our live sessions are where the real magic happens for our students. We’ve shared laughs, tears, and distant hugs with our students, and cheered their birth announcements. Our blended classes are perfect whether you’re seeking an unmedicated birth, epidural, homebirth, birth center, or hospital birth…or if you don’t yet know what path is right for you. We’ve got you.

We can’t wait to connect with you and come alongside you for this journey. Your life is changing. Let us help to guide you as you create the birthing and parenting experience that’s right for you.

Shannon McKenzie, M.Ed.

Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, Meditation Instructor, Yoga Teacher.

When Shannon McKenzie (she/her) was pregnant for the fist time, she used her lifelong love of learning to find out all she could to have a healthy and positive birth. She took childbirth classes, hired a doula, and thought she was ready. A 24 hour natural birth later, which brought her first son - and she realized there was still a lot to learn to have a more comfortable birth, but that didn't lessen her birth high! Her second son soon followed, with a peaceful, serene (also 24 hour) natural home waterbirth. By then, Shannon was smitten with birth, babies, and breastfeeding and on a mission to support other expectant families so they too could have informed, empowered, and joyful birth experiences. Her third son was again born at home, 7 years later, with his big brothers serving as her doulas! Shannon also works in higher education, and is an avid nature-lover, meditator, and reader. She lives north of Chicago with the lights of her life - her 3 sons - and 2 dogs, 2 ferrets, and a cat!

Kelly Kolb, CD/PCD(DONA), ICCE, CLC, SBD

Birth & Postpartum Doula

Childbirth Educator, CLC

When Kelly (she/her) was pregnant and considered high-risk, she found herself hungry to learn how to have a calmer, more comfortable birth and to navigate her options to have a more empowered experience. As a lover of research, she dug into all things pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, postpartum, and newborn—then decided she'd never leave! She still pinches herself daily to check that she really gets to do this work she loves, helping parents navigate their own paths to parenthood in the ways that fit best for them. When she’s not snuggling babies, you’ll find her sewing, reading, & spoiling animals. She is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and lives with her spouse, daughter, and their two cats.
